PM Barzani receives UN Special Representative for Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Barzani and the Special Representative reviewed ongoing discussions with the federal government in Baghdad.

Prime Minister Barzani affirmed the new government’s commitment to establishing a constructive and stable relationship with Baghdad underpinned by the Kurdistan Region’s rights enshrined within the constitution. He commended the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq for efforts to broker political settlements and promote reconciliation in the disputed territories, including in Kirkuk. In that regard, the Prime Minister spoke on the importance of implementing Article 140 of the constitution as it relates to the disputed territories.

The Special Representative praised the KRG for its ongoing support to IDPs and refugees from conflict in the region.
