Prime Minister Masrour Barzani meets with Deputy Commander of Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received a delegation headed by Maj. Gen. Gerald Strickland, Deputy Commander of Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) for Stabilization.

The two officials discussed ongoing efforts to eliminate the threat of the so-called Islamic State in Iraq.

Prime Minister Barzani provided an update on the coordinated work of the Peshmerga and Iraqi security forces in defending the country and protecting its peoples.

Both sides recognised the coalition’s close relationship with the Peshmerga forces, which extends to military training and logistical assistance.

Prime Minister Barzani praised the coalition for its support to the Kurdistan Region and emphasised that the causes which led to the emergence of the so-called Islamic State in 2014 have yet to be addressed.

Prime Minister Barzani updated Deputy Commander Strickland on the risks of a possible resurgence of violence by terrorist groups and the threat they pose to the security and stability of the region.
