Prime Minister Masrour Barzani meets with the Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Erbil

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received the Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Erbil, Ni-Ruchi.

The Consul-General acknowledged that new economic opportunities are arising between the Kurdistan Region and The People’s Republic of China as bilateral relations improve. He stressed his country’s interest in the region as a preferred destination for investors.

The Consul-General indicated that his office will support companies from the People’s Republic of China looking to invest in the Kurdistan Region.

The Consul-General also highlighted that major oil and infrastructure projects, agreed between the government of the People’s Republic of China and the Federal Government of Iraq during Prime Minister Adil Abdel Mahdi’s recent visit to Beijing, are focused in the Kurdistan Region.

Prime Minister Barzani updated the Consul-General on the Kurdistan Regional Government’s progress on financial reform and economic diversification. He affirmed that the Kurdistan Region is open to investors from across the world.

During the meeting, the two officials also announced the opening of a Chinese language centre at the University of Salahaddin in Erbil and a sister Kurdish language centre to be hosted in Beijing’s Peking University.
