Prime Minister Masrour Barzani receives UN Special Representative for Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today met with UN Special Representative for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, to discuss regional developments and ongoing dialogue with Baghdad.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving disputes with the Federal Government within the framework of the constitution and as an equal partner.

The Prime Minister warned that Erbil’s share of the federal budget is being used as a political tool against the people of the Kurdistan Region, and called on the United Nations to assist negotiations toward an agreement that protects the constitutional rights and financial entitlements of the people of Kurdistan. He noted that this year, Baghdad had only sent Erbil six payments for public sector salaries.

During the exchange, both sides highlighted the importance of implementing the Shingal Accord to restore peace and stability in the area. The Prime Minister called for a full implementation of the agreement to prevent further insecurity in the region.
