Kurdistan Regional Government and Kurdistan Region Presidency convene to discuss the latest developments in Kurdistan and Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, today chaired a meeting with the cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government led by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani.

The President acknowledged the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) wide-ranging reforms and offered his support for the government’s efforts to improve and modernise the Kurdistan Region’s public sector and the delivery of services.

The Prime Minister thanked the President for his support and affirmed that the KRG remains committed to its ambitious reform agenda. He stressed that the reforms are a vital part of the KRG’s efforts to increase transparency and ensure that the government is serving the people.

During the meeting, Minister of Health Saman Hussein and Minister of Interior Rebar Ahmed updated the cabinet on measures taken against the spread of the Coronavirus in the Kurdistan Region, affirming no cases have been registered in the Kurdistan Region to date.

Discussing the situation in Iraq, the President stated that the Kurdistan Region remains committed to stability and a de-escalation of tensions. He emphasised that disputes between Erbil and Baghdad will be resolved peacefully, through dialogue, and in line the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights.

Prime Minister Barzani noted the KRG will continue to address deep-rooted issues between Erbil and Baghdad through constructive dialogue that he hopes will resume with the formation of the new federal government.

The Presidency and KRG were aligned on the need for the Kurdistan Region to continue its role in as an advocate for peace and stability in the region. They agreed that the Kurdistan Region should continue to ensure balanced and mutually respectful relationships with neighbours and regional partners.
