Prime Minister Masrour Barzani meets with Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.

Hennis-Plasschaert praised the Kurdistan Region for its role as an advocate of peace, specifically for its response to the recent instability in Iraq and the region. Both parties agreed that further instability is not in the interest of the Iraqi peoples and urged all sides to de-escalate tensions to preserve peace and security.

Prime Minister Barzani and the UN envoy also discussed progress made towards building and maintaining a strong and meaningful relationship between Erbil and Baghdad. The Prime Minister thanked the UN for its support in fostering a constructive dialogue between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government of Iraq.
