Prime Minister Masrour Barzani receives US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, David Schenker, and the US Consul-General in Erbil, Steven Fagin.

Discussing the latest developments in Iraq and the Middle East, Prime Minister Barzani expressed his deep concern about recent events and highlighted the need for dialogue to de-escalate the situation in Iraq.

Recognising progress made in talks between the Kurdistan Regional Government and Baghdad, Assistant Secretary of State Schenker welcomed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s role as a partner and an advocate for peace and stability in the region.

Prime Minister Barzani stressed his government’s commitment to engaging in constructive dialogue with the new federal government of Iraq whilst emphasising the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region.
