Readout of PM call with the UK Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa Andrew Murrison
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received a telephone call from the UK Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa Andrew Murrison.
During the call, Mr Murrison thanked the Prime Minister for the Kurdistan Regional Government’s efforts to de-escalate recent tensions in the region. He said the UK and the KRG approaches were aligned.
The Prime Minister said the KRG was continuing its efforts to contain the situation.
He also underscored the continued, shared threat from ISIS, and the need for Global Coalition support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to defeat the terrorists.
Mr Murrison stated the UK’s commitment to Iraq’s stability and sovereignty. The Prime Minister said it is important for Iraq and its international partners that Kurdistan is safe, secure and prosperous. He emphasised the KRG’s rights under Iraq’s constitution, and expressed his hope that Iraq would fulfil its obligation to respect those rights.
