Prime Minister Barzani receives British Ambassador to Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday met with British Ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hickey and discussed ongoing disputes with the federal government.

In the meeting attended by British Consul General to Erbil James Thornton, both sides spoke about the importance of developing relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United Kingdom as well as outstanding problems with Baghdad.

Prime Minister Barzani reiterated his support for Mustafa Al-Kadhimi’s cabinet, adding the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is fully prepared to resolve ongoing disputes with Baghdad within the framework of the Iraqi constitution.

The Prime Minister stressed that he is prepared to visit Baghdad whenever the federal government is ready to resolve issues with the KRG fairly.

Ambassador Hickey expressed his country’s readiness to bring Erbil and Baghdad closer together in an attempt to resolve outstanding problems on the basis of the Iraqi constitution.

The British Ambassador also said they consider Iraq and the Kurdistan Region their allies and friends, adding they want to help them pass this difficult time.
