Prime Minister Masrour Barzani receives UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received a delegation that included the UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, Adama Dieng, and UN Special Adviser and Head of the United Nations Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by ISIS, Karim Asad Ahmad.

During the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of the international community’s collective efforts to prevent atrocities such as those committed by ISIS from reoccurring. They also discussed steps to further promote cooperation between the KRG and the UN in documenting ISIS crimes, bringing to justice those responsible, and protecting the rights and dignity of victims.

The UN delegation praised the KRG’s ongoing efforts in protecting the rights of minorities in the Kurdistan Region and promoting a culture of peace, equality, and coexistence.
