Statement by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on the death of Dr. Firsat Sofi, Governor of Erbil

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in a statement on Wednesday expressed his heartfelt condolences for the tragic and untimely loss of Dr. Firsat Sofi, Governor of Erbil.

“I am deeply saddened today to learn about the passing of Erbil Governor, Dr. Firsat Sofi. He was a faithful patriot and a dedicated public servant, who devoted his entire life to serving the nation as a Member of Parliament and, most recently, as Governor of Erbil.

“Dr. Firsat was an ardent advocate of progress, understanding the importance of carrying out reforms, and approached challenges in governing with grace and professionalism. As Governor of Erbil, he was dutiful and passionate about his responsibilities toward the public.

“His death is a great and profound loss for the people of the Kurdistan Region and the Kurdistan Regional Government. On this sad day, I extend my deepest condolences to his family and the people of Kurdistan, and to the Province of Erbil in particular. Dr. Firsat’s legacy will continue to live on, and we will keep him in our thoughts and memory. May he rest in peace.”
