Prime Minister Masrour Barzani receives President of Iraq's Supreme Judicial Council

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today met with the President of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zidan, to discuss relations between Erbil and Baghdad.

During the meeting, the two sides emphasised the importance of ensuring judicial independence in Iraq and explored how coordination with judicial authorities in the Kurdistan Region can be strengthened.

Prime Minister Barzani stressed that the judiciary in Iraq should remain independent in the resolution of political and constitutional disputes, and has a responsibility to respond to violations. He also urged for the federal government of Iraq to honour the constitutional status of the Kurdistan Region.

The President of the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq agreed with the principles of judicial impartiality and that outstanding problems should be resolved within the framework of the constitution. He also added that the federal government should respect the status of the Kurdistan Region, including its judiciary, to maintain peace in the country.
