Prime Minister Masrour Barzani's message on the 59th anniversary of Aylul Revolution

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in a statement on Friday commemorated the 59th anniversary of Aylul Revolution.

PM Barzani said:

"On 11 September 1961, began the Grand Aylul Revolution, which later turned into a nationwide movement of people from all walks of life, different religious and ethnic backgrounds, under the leadership of national leader Mustafa Barzani.

"The Grand Aylul Revolution started at a time of despair in Kurdistan, when enemies of the Kurdistani nation were making every effort to eliminate Kurdish culture and identity, and deprive our people of their fundamental rights. Therefore, all the Kurdstani peoples rallied behind the revolution, which united Kurdistan under one flag and leadership, and through the will and resilience of the Peshmerga.

"One of the historic achievements of the revolution was the March 11 treaty of 1970, when the Baathist regime was forced to recognise the rights of the Kurdistani nation. Today, we commemorate this great revolution at a time when the Kurdistan Region is going through difficult times. The revolution's spirit of resilience and other honourable values should encourage us to be united, and protect the accomplishments of the people of Kurdistan. On this occasion, I pay tribute to the martyrs of the Aylul Revolution, and all those who fell protecting Kurdistan."
