Prime Minister Masrour Barzani meets with British Ambassador to Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received British Ambassador to Iraq, Stephen Hickey, to discuss recent political and security developments.

Both discussed the federal budget law and the rights and duties of both governments. The Prime Minister noted ongoing dialogue with Baghdad to ensure the Kurdistan Region receives its share of the budget and thanked the UK and other international partners for their support during the negotiations.

On the national parliamentary elections, Prime Minister Barzani expressed deep concern regarding the situation in the disputed territories. He urged Ambassador Hickey to help create conditions necessary for free, fair and credible elections.

The British Ambassador strongly condemned the recent attacks on Erbil and reaffirmed UK support for the Kurdistan Region. He also praised KRG’s reform efforts, notably in the Ministry of Peshmerga, and expressed his country's continued support.
