Prime Minister Masrour Barzani meets with Russian Ambassador to Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today met with Russian Ambassador to Iraq, Maksim Maksimov, who paid a courtesy farewell visit to the Kurdistan Region as his term comes to an end.

During the meeting, attended by Russian Consul General in Erbil Oleg Levin, both sides discussed developing bilateral relations between Russia and the Kurdistan Region as well as the latest developments in Iraq and the region.

The Russian Ambassador to Iraq praised the Kurdistan Region on its successes, notably its economic growth and reconstruction efforts, which could serve as an example for other parts of Iraq. He also expressed his country’s readiness to develop ties in all fields with the Kurdistan Region.
The Prime Minister thanked the Russian Ambassador for his role in improving bilateral relations between Moscow and Erbil, and wished him success in his new role.

The Prime Minister also noted the Kurdistan Regional Government will continue to work on its relationship with the Federal Government of Iraq, especially to improve cooperation in confronting terrorist threats, and highlighted the importance of resolving outstanding disputes on the basis of the constitution.

They also discussed the upcoming Iraqi elections and efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
