Prime Minister Masrour Barzani receives Head of the UN team investigating ISIS crimes
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday met with Head of the United Nation’s Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by ISIS (UNITAD), Karim Khan, to discuss the team’s progress and ongoing efforts to document atrocities committed by the terrorist group.
During the meeting, they discussed the steps being undertaken in the prosecution of ISIS criminals, the ongoing cooperation between the judiciary and relevant institutions of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the UN, and efforts to draft a bill specifically related to the Kurdistan Region’s ISIS criminal court.
Mr. Khan praised the Kurdistan Regional Government for their meaningful collaboration and the Prime Minister for his support for the work and duties of the UNITAD team and the judicial system. He described the Kurdistan Region’s approach on this matter as a successful example for the region.
Prime Minister Barzani thanked Mr. Khan and the UNITAD team for their work in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to bring justice to the victims of ISIS and compensate the families. He also congratulated Mr. Khan on being elected prosecutor for the International Criminal Court and wished him success in his new role.
