Prime Minister Masrour Barzani receives British Ambassador

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received the British Ambassador to Iraq, Stephen Hickey, and British Consul General in Erbil, James Thornton.

The officials discussed the latest developments in Iraq and the region in general, as well as ways to strengthen bilateral ties between the Kurdistan Region and Britain.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the upcoming Iraqi election and the need to ensure free and fair elections, as well as the importance of implementing the Sinjar agreement, which includes the withdrawal of militias and irregular armed forces from the area.

The Prime Minister stressed that the Kurdistan Region has always and continues to fulfill its constitutional obligations as the foundation on which it hopes to reach an agreement with the Federal Government of Iraq, one that guarantees and preserves the rights of the citizens of the Kurdistan Region.

The British ambassador expressed his country’s readiness to provide assistance for the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq to reach a fair and long-term agreement based on the constitution.
