Prime Minister Masrour Barzani receives Interior Minister of Iraq
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today met with the Interior Minister of Iraq, Othman Al-Ghanimi.
The two discussed strengthening the cooperation between security forces of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government, and working closely together to respond to the recent missile attack on Erbil and general threats in the country.
They also highlighted the importance of implementing the Shingal Agreement and ensuring the departure of outlawed militias and illegal armed forces from the area.
The Prime Minister thanked the Federal Interior Minister for his efforts on the matter, and raised concerns regarding the ongoing policy of forced demographic change which has resulted in the assault of Kurdish citizens and the occupation of their lands in Kirkuk and other Kurdistani regions outside the Kurdistan Regional Government’s administration. The Prime Minister warned that such acts were unconstitutional and not in the interest of the Iraqi people, urging for a response by the government to prevent further violations.
The Prime Minister and the Interior Minister also discussed ongoing negotiations between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government on Iraq regarding the draft 2021 budget bill and the upcoming elections.
