Prime Minister Masrour Barzani receives Nobel Laureate Nadia Murad

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government Masrour Barzani welcomed Yezidi activist and Nobel Laureate who survived ISIS, Nadia Murad.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister reiterated the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to address the needs of the Yezidis and reduce the suffering of this grieving community by provide them with a decent life and ensuring a safe return to their homes. He also highlighted that the Yezidis are an important component of Kurdistan and that the Kurdistan Regional Government will continue to support their legitimate demands. He recalled that hundreds of Peshmerga were martyred to rescue Shingal from the horrors of ISIS and called for the situation in Shingal to be normalized to honour the memory of all those lost and return peace to the area.

The Prime Minister agreed with Nadia Murad on the need to intensify efforts to find Yezidi women and girls who are still missing, and return the remains of all the victims of Kocho Village. She also urged for the Shingal Agreement to be implemented as soon as possible to stabilise the security situation in the region.

Both sides also emphasized the importance of continued international and regional cooperation with the UN’s special investigative team documenting crimes committed by ISIS in the search for justice for Yezidi victims.
