Prime Minister Masrour Barzani welcomes UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today welcomed the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, to discuss the situation in Iraq and the region, ongoing negotiations between the regional and federal governments, and progress toward meaningful reforms.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed efforts to secure the Kurdistan Region’s equitable share of the federal budget for 2021, and agreed that issues between Erbil and Baghdad should be resolved within the framework of the constitution so as to ensure the Kurdistan Region’s financial entitlements are respected.

They also highlighted the importance of implementing the Shingal Agreement to allow the safe and dignified return of displaced individuals to their homes and bring peace and stability to the area.
