Prime Minister Masrour Barzani meets with Hungarian Secretary of State

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today welcomed Hungarian Secretary of State, Tristan Azbej, to discuss the current situation on the ground and identify areas of cooperation in assisting Christians in the region.

During the meeting, the Hungarian Secretary of State described the Kurdistan Region as a bright example of religious pluralism and peaceful coexistence and praised it for hosting hundreds of thousands of refugees, including Christians. He also thanked the Peshmerga Forces for their sacrifices in protecting all peoples and communities, including Christians, during the war against ISIS.

Secretary of State Azbej expressed his gratitude for the Kurdistan Regional Government’s warm welcome of his Holiness Pope Francis, who led a successful visit to the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

The Prime Minister thanked the Hungarian government for its continued support through the framework of the International Coalition against ISIS and highlighted the Kurdistan Regional Government’s readiness to develop bilateral ties with Hungary.
