Statement by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on International Women’s Day

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today issued the following statement:

“As we mark International Women’s Day on March 8th, I invite everyone to join me in celebrating the women of Kurdistan and the world. Here, we proudly look at the women of Kurdistan strive for greater equality and justice, and whose struggle has helped shape our history.

“Women have always participated in the Kurdistan people’s liberation movement and have bravely stood against forces of oppression, and we continue to honour the sacrifices, patience and contributions of the women of Kurdistan in the defense of the rights of the Kurdish people.

“Today, the Kurdistan Regional Government reaffirms its commitment to combatting gender discrimination and promoting the role of women. We will continue to support the active and meaningful participation of the women of Kurdistan in politics and in our communities, and we will continue to advocate for women’s rights and respect of all human rights. Our fight to eradicate violence against women is ongoing, and we urge families and communities to help by promoting the principles of equality and acceptance.

“On March 8th, International Women's Day, may the fight for women’s right remain as strong as ever.
“I wish the women of Kurdistan success in all of their efforts toward a brighter future.”
