Statement by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on the anniversary of the March 11 Agreement

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today issued the following statement on the anniversary of the March 11 Agreement:

“Today, we commemorate the 51-year anniversary of the March 11, 1970 agreement, a historic milestone of the Great September Revolution led by the legendary Mustafa Barzani.

“The unyielding struggle and fight of the Kurdish people forced the Iraqi government to formally acknowledge the legitimacy of Kurdish rights and demands for the first time. Unfortunately, the Iraqi government then reneged on the agreement and launched a campaign of terror and violence against the people of Kurdistan.

“The March 11 Agreement was the product of years of struggle and sacrifice by the Kurdistani people, from all walks of life, and the desire of the Kurdish people to live in peace and reject war. On this occasion, we affirm that we remain committed to finding a peaceful and long-lasting resolution to ongoing disputes with the federal government, one that protects and ensures the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people, one based on the principles of federalism in Iraq.”
