Prime Minister Masrour Barzani meets with high-level US Delegation

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today met with a high-level US delegation to discuss bilateral relations and threats of terrorism in the region.

Prime Minister Barzani welcomed State Department Counselor, Derek Chollet, White House Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, Brett McGurk, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Joey Hood, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Middle East, Dana Stroul.

Prime Minister Barzani extended his congratulations to President Joe Biden on his first 100 days in office, and welcomed support for peace and stability in the Middle East as a priority for his administration. The Prime Minister affirmed the Kurdistan Region will proudly continue to be a key regional ally for the US.

The Prime Minister highlighted the strong relationship between the Kurdistan Region and the US, which continues to deepen through initiatives such as the US-Iraq Strategic Dialogue and joint efforts by the International Coalition and the Peshmerga forces to combat the threat of terrorism in the region.

Prime Minister thanked the visiting delegation for its ongoing commitment to the region’s peace and security efforts, including support for the upcoming national elections and steps to fill the security vacuum in disputed areas.
