Prime Minister Masrour Barzani meets with Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today welcomed Mohammed Al-Halbousi, the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives and leader of the National Movement for Development and Reform, to discuss recent political and security developments in the region.

Prime Minister Barzani underscored the importance of strengthening Iraq’s democratic institutions, which includes ensuring conditions for free, fair, and credible elections and respect for the constitution as the basis on which outstanding disputes between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government should be resolved.

Both sides also agreed that the threats posed by ISIS remains real in many parts of Iraq. The Prime Minister stressed the need for greater coordination between the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army, as well as the determination of a joint response in tackling the threat of terrorism.
