Statement by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on ISIS Attack in Pirde

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani issued the following statement on last night's ISIS attack on Peshmerga forces in Pirde:

"I am deeply saddened by last night's attack by ISIS terrorists that martyred and injured a number of our brave Peshmerga forces at the border of Pirde. I extend my condolences to the families of the martyrs and share their grief, and I wish a swift recovery to those injured.

"As we have repeatedly stated, ISIS is still a serious threat in Iraq, especially in the disputed territories where the terrorist group exploits the security vacuum.

"I urge partners in Iraq and the Coalition to recognise the urgent need for a joint response to combat this common enemy. The Iraqi army and Peshmerga forces must begin implementing greater security coordination with the International Coalition's support and training. This is crucial to permanently defeat ISIS and eliminate threats to the safety and stability of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq."
