Statement by PM Masrour Barzani on the attack on Peshmerga forces

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - I was saddened to hear the news of the martyrdom of a number of brave Peshmerga as they were heading to support their partners. I offer my condolences to their families and may they rest in peace. I also wish the injured a speedy recovery.

We have warned multiple times against the threat imposed by the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists and their regrouping especially in disputed territories, where they take advantage of security gaps and pose a real threat to the security and people of those areas. There should be immediate work on further activating the joint coordination centres between Peshmerga forces and Iraqi security forces in cooperation with the global coalition to fill the security gaps.

For this purpose, we have tasked the Peshmerga ministry to make further preparations and take necessary measures to limit and eliminate the threats and prevent harm to Peshmerga and locals.
