PM Barzani promotes education reforms at AUK conference

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and President Nechirvan Barzani on Sunday attended an education conference held by the American University of Kurdistan (AUK), in Duhok.

Prime Minister Barzani told the conference that despite numerous crises in the past two years, the ninth cabinet continued to reform education. Crucially, he said a new body will accredit education centers and monitor education levels.

”We are devoting all our efforts to developing our education system and higher education in a way that is compatible with the 21st century," PM Barzani said.

"Our goal is that students learn expertise that is good for the market and necessary for the stability of Kurdistan Region, so it helps the job market and reduces unemployment,"

Prime Minister Barzani emphasized that education depends on students, teachers and academics so it is important to consult with them.

"As part of the reform process in the education sector, we are working on establishing the National Accreditation Body, whose task will be evaluating and accrediting academic centers to international standards in order to develop the sector and set out a strategy to face all challenges," PM Barzani added.

Prime Minister Barzani also added that teachers and professors must help build a system to give the Kurdistan Region an educated future generation, one that is imbued with a true sense of patriotism that will serve Kurdistan’s development.
