PM Masrour Barzani inaugurates Zakho as an Independent administration

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday inaugurated Zakho as an independent administration.

Prime Minister Barzani addressed the sacrifices of those involved in Kurdish revolts and emphasised the importance of Zakho as a border city.

He said this was to help Zakho’s population to deal with administrative paperwork in the town instead of traveling to Duhok.

"I ask the new Zakho administration to serve its own people in every way," PM Barzani said.

"Responsibility is not a privilege and those chosen as leaders are not chosen to take advantage of that position but to serve the people."

Prime Minister Barzani added that the presence of the PKK in the area has forced many villages to be emptied, and the sovereignty of the Kurdistan Region needs to be respected.

"Zakho region is a beautiful area for tourism as well. But sadly recently the presence of the PKK has caused discontent and many of our villages have been emptied, with its people unable to return. Everybody must respect our sovereignty, respect our people's hard work, and respect our sacrifices and martyrs."
