PM Masrour Barzani marks start of the new academic year in the Kurdistan Region

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday rang in the start of the Kurdistan Region’s new academic year at the Shahid Ibrahim Nasir School in Shaqlawa and delivered the following remarks.

“The last two years have been challenging for our students and teachers. We know measures put in place to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus were limiting and demanding, but together, we persevered and were able to ensure education across the Kurdistan Region continued safely.

“Our cabinet, from the very beginning, understood the importance of education in developing a healthy, environmentally-minded, and resilient society. We thank our teachers for their unwavering commitment to the Kurdistan Region’s youth during these hard times, overcoming obstacles placed by the pandemic and financial crisis to continue teaching.

“We also thank the Ministry of Education, who set out a plan to protect children from the academic impact of lost school time and launched Ewane.krd, an online educational platform that facilitated uninterrupted learning.

“Recognizing everyone’s sacrifice during the pandemic, I urge people to get vaccinated and continue protecting your loved ones by respecting official health guidelines to minimize the spread of the virus.”
