PM Masrour Barzani statement on Kurdish Journalism Day

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD)- On the 124th anniversary of the publication of the first issue of Kurdistan newspaper by Mir Midhat Badirkhan and his colleagues, and the foundation of the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate, I congratulate all the journalists in the Kurdistan Region and wish them success in their work.

Journalism has an important goal: raising awareness among people and delivering the truth. Professional and responsible journalism that has an impact towards positive political, economic, social and cultural change in the Kurdistan Region, as per the Region’s laws, international standards, and ethics, is essential.

It is a source of great pride that there is a suitable environment provided for freedom of journalism in the Kurdistan Region. Hundreds of different outlets have benefited from this environment set up by the Kurdistan Regional Government.

I call on the journalists of the Kurdistan Region to continue their good work and not let anyone or any party abuse this important job for personal gain or to insult the high values of our nation.

Ultimately, I want to remember all the professional journalists who have long served Kurdish journalism.
