PM Barzani receives Estonia’s Defence Minister

On Wednesday, 2 August 2023, Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), met with Hanno Pevkur, the Estonian Minister of Defence. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani. The two leaders discussed the general situation in Iraq and focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Estonia and the Kurdistan Region.

One of the key topics of discussion was extending support to the Peshmerga forces in the fight against terrorism and maintaining peace and security in the region as a whole. They also emphasised the importance of continuing security and military cooperation and coordination, particularly in combating the Islamic State threat.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Barzani expressed gratitude to Estonia for its continuous support to the Peshmerga forces as part of The Global Coalition against Daesh.

Minister Pevkur reaffirmed Estonia's commitment to increasing security cooperation and coordination while continuing to support the Peshmerga forces.
