KRG Prime Minister Stands Firm on the Protection of Rights for Ethnic and Religious Components

On Monday, December 11, 2023, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) reiterated the government's commitment to upholding the rights of all ethnic and religious components in the Kurdistan Region.

In furtherance of this commitment, Prime Minister Barzani sent a letter to Faiq Zedan, President of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the United Nations Special Representative for Iraq, and Omar Ahmad Mohammed, the head of the Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq (IHEC). The letter outlined Prime Minister Barzani’s concerns and objections regarding potential changes to the representation and rights of the Kurdistan Region's ethnic and religious components, calling for actions to prevent such alterations.
