Prime Minister: KRG’s plan is to enrol all private sector employees for social insurance
On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) visited the General Directorate of Labour and Social Insurance in Erbil to personally review the ongoing reform and restructuring plans, as well as the digitalisation of archives.
During his visit, the prime minister emphasised the importance of registering all workers in the private sector for social insurance. This measure aims to increase work opportunities and encourage job seekers to consider the private sector for employment.
Prime Minister Barzani also highlighted the benefits of digitising documents for employees, particularly in relation to the processing of pensions for retirees. He emphasised that the small contribution collected from private sector workers is not a tax, but rather a guarantee for their future pensions.
Currently, there are 40,000 registered cases of social insurance in the Kurdistan Region. The prime minister expressed his hope for a swift resolution of these cases, enabling the government to provide more services and reassurances to private sector workers.
The KRG's ninth cabinet has undertaken this project with the goal of creating a favourable environment for young job seekers, increasing employment opportunities, and minimising bureaucracy.
