KRG Prime Minister Welcomes the Commander of Operation Inherent Resolve

On Thursday, 22 August 2024, Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), welcomed Maj Gen Kevin C. Leahy, the newly appointed commander of the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve in Syria and Iraq.

The meeting, which was attended by Steve Bitner, U.S. Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, focused on the current situation in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and Syria, as well as the current combat efforts in countering terrorism of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS).

Prime Minister Barzani congratulated Maj Gen Leahy and expressed the Kurdistan Region's gratitude to the United States and the allied forces for their continued support.

Maj Gen Leahy emphasised the significance of the partnership and the joint efforts between the Kurdistan Region and the U.S.

The discussion also covered progress made in unifying the Peshmerga forces and the ongoing reforms within the Ministry of Peshmerga.
