KRG Prime Minister and French President Convene at Davos Summit
On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) held a meeting with Emmanuel Macron, President of France, at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Their discussions focussed primarily on the recent attack on Erbil by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, which occurred on January 15. This act was labeled as a significant threat to the Kurdistan Region and a clear infringement of the sovereignty of both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The leaders agreed on the critical need to maintain security and stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
President Macron offered his condolences to Prime Minister Barzani and reiterated France's steadfast support for the Kurdistan Region.
In response, Prime Minister Barzani thanked France for its enduring solidarity, acknowledging the country’s historical and ongoing support for the Kurdish people.
The meeting also emphasised the urgency of resolving issues between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi government in a way that honours the principles set forth in the Iraqi constitution.
