KRG Prime Minister and UN Secretary-General Meet in Davos

On January 17, 2024, Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), and António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, convened at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Their meeting focused on the recent attack on Erbil by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps on January 15. The UN Chief expressed condolences to the Prime Minister, condemning the attack as a violation of the sovereignty of both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and reiterating that targeting civilians is unequivocally unacceptable.

Additionally, they discussed the latest political developments in Iraq, highlighting the urgency of resolving outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi government in alignment with the constitution.
