KRG Prime Minister and Congresswoman Slotkin Discuss Kurdistan's Stability and Coexistence
On 29 February 2024, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with US Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin in Washington D.C. Their meeting focused on the pressing issues affecting the Kurdistan Region's security and stability.
Congresswoman Slotkin expressed her concerns about factors destabilising the region and acknowledged the importance of Prime Minister Barzani's visit. Their discussions covered the plight of the Christian community in the Nineveh Plains and the broader challenges faced by various ethnic and religious groups in Iraq. A significant point of concern was the Iraq Federal Supreme Court's recent decision to abolish minority quota seats in the Kurdistan Region's parliament, which has implications for the representation of these communities.
Both sides underscored the critical need to protect the rights of all ethnic and religious groups in Iraq and the importance of promoting peaceful coexistence within the Kurdistan Region and across Iraq.
