KRG Prime Minister Holds Talks with German Foreign Office Minister

On 19 March 2024, Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), met with Tobias Lindner, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office in Germany.
During their discussions, Minister Lindner reaffirmed Germany's steadfast support for the Peshmerga forces and emphasised the importance of fostering cooperation and coordination with the Kurdistan Region.

A primary focus of the meeting was the importance of upholding Iraq's federal system and preserving the Kurdistan Region's constitutional status.
Prime Minister Barzani emphasised the Kurds' unwavering commitment to their constitutional rights despite political, military, economic, and pseudo-legal pressures. He underscored the need for valid, democratic, and constitutional elections conducted within a fair legal electoral framework to ensure adequate representation of all ethnic and religious groups within the Kurdistan Region.

The discussion also touched upon the situation in the region’s refugee camps, with both sides agreeing to facilitate the voluntary repatriation of displaced individuals to their native lands.
