KRG Prime Minister Meets with Pentagon Officials

On 29 February 2024, Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, convened with Sasha Baker, the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, at the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C.

The meeting, which also included Celeste A. Wallander, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, focused on recent developments in Iraq and the wider region. They underscored the critical importance of maintaining security and stability in the Kurdistan Region.

Both parties acknowledged the vital role of ongoing cooperation and support for the Peshmerga forces in combating terrorism and the so-called Islamic State.

The discussions also covered the unification and reform of the Peshmerga forces, as well as the reform process within the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.
