PM Barzani meets with U.S. Ambassador on KRG budget and elections
Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) — Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met today with the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski. During the meeting, both exchanged views on the need to respect the Kurdistan Region as a federal entity and the provision of the Kurdistan Region’s financial entitlements through the KRG.
They also discussed progress in the KRG’s financial inclusion program, MyAccount.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani reiterated that the Kurdistan Region has met all its constitutional duties and its constitutionally defined rights must no longer be violated.
Ambassador Romanowski expressed her support to resolving disputes between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government through dialogue and based on the constitution of Iraq.
Both also discussed the need for parliamentary elections. Prime Minister Masrour Barzani stressed that KRG has called for elections for two years, in a process that is lawful, legitimate and constitutional to ensure fair, transparent and credible elections. They agreed on the need to address challenges and barriers to the election process.
