KRG Prime Minister Meets the Ambassador of Korea

On Wednesday, 29 May 2024, Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), met with Choi Sung-soo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Iraq.

The meeting, also attended by Seungcheol Lim, Consul General of South Korea in the Kurdistan Region, focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Republic of Korea.

Ambassador Sung-soo praised Prime Minister Barzani's vision and efforts in developing Kurdistan across various sectors. He highlighted the long-standing relationship between Korea and Kurdistan, which began 20 years ago with the arrival of Korea’s peacekeeping military contingent, Zaytun. This contingent undertook reconstruction projects in the region through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) from 2004 to 2008, marking the start of official relations between the two nations.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed the Kurdistan Region’s gratitude to the Republic of Korea for its support, cooperation, and participation in the region's development. He emphasised the importance of learning from Korea’s successful experience.
