PM Masrour Barzani chairs first meeting of the Kurdistan Accrediting Association for Education

Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) - Sunday May 12

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani led the inaugural meeting of the Kurdistan Accrediting Association for Education in Erbil. Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani also attended the meeting.

The Association's primary objective is to establish best-practice standards that ensure the quality of education in the Kurdistan Region. They aim to cultivate a culture of continuous transparency, assessment, and improvement at both the academic program and institutional levels.

The Association outlined its vision, mission, purpose, and plans, aligning with the law ratified by the Kurdistan Parliament in June 2022. Discussions focused on establishing a Board of Trustees with accreditation experts, the Association's development plan, a start-up budget, identifying pilot institutions, and appointing a Secretary General.

The initial implementation steps include a needs assessment of various academic institutions and proposing draft standards for review by the KRG's Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Once established, the Association will collaborate with both ministries to build capacity within pilot institutions for implementing the accreditation process and complying with the standards.
