Prime Minister Masrour Barzani meets with new UN SRGS for Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) - Today, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Dr. Mohamed Al Hassan, the newly appointed Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

The Prime Minister congratulated SRSG Al Hassan on assuming his new role and reaffirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to supporting him in his mission to promote peace and stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Prime Minister Barzani highlighted the significance of UNAMI’s ongoing role in preserving security, peace, and stability across the region.

SRSG Dr. Mohamed Al Hassan acknowledged the growth and development of the Kurdistan Region, describing it as a model for other parts of Iraq. He also confirmed the United Nations’ willingness to deepen cooperation with the KRG.

They also discussed preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region. Both sides emphasized the importance of ensuring a calm, fair, and transparent election process, free from external interference.

They also addressed Iraq’s national census, scheduled for November 20. Prime Minister Barzani reiterated the KRG’s support for the census, provided it serves all the people of Iraq and is not manipulated for political purposes.
