Prime Minister Barzani Receives U.S. Congressional Delegation

Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received a delegation from the United States Congress, including Representatives Adam Smith, Michael Baumgartner, Sarah Jacobs, Wesley Bell, George Whitesides, and their accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on developments in Iraq and the wider region, and discussed ways to further strengthen relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States.

The congressional delegation briefed the Prime Minister on the purpose of their visit, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Kurdistan Region within Iraq and the Middle East. They also reaffirmed the United States’ continued support for Kurdistan and its Peshmerga forces.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed his appreciation for the U.S. government’s ongoing assistance and highlighted the KRG’s reform efforts in key sectors such as energy, electricity, and banking.

Both parties also underscored the importance of forming a new cabinet for the Kurdistan Regional Government without delay.

The meeting addressed relations between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government of Iraq, the resumption of oil exports via the Iraq-Türkiye pipeline, recent developments in Syria, and the peace process in Türkiye.
