Prime Minister Barzani Meets U.S. Deputy Secretary of State

Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Michael Rigas.

Deputy Secretary Rigas highlighted the importance of the longstanding partnership between the Kurdistan Region and the United States, noting that the opening of the new U.S. Consulate compound in Erbil stands as a clear symbol of his country’s commitment to strong relations and enduring friendship with the Kurdistan Region. He reaffirmed the United States’ willingness to further expand investment and cooperation in the Region.

The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for the United States’ continued support to the Kurdistan Region over the years and reiterated the Region’s readiness to further strengthen bilateral ties across all sectors.

They strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack on the Khor Mor gas field.

They also discussed the political situation in Iraq following the parliamentary elections, as well as ongoing efforts to form the new Iraqi federal cabinet.
