Prime Minister Barzani Receives U.S. Ambassador Steven Fagin

Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) - On Saturday, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Ambassador Steven Fagin, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
The meeting was also attended by Steve Bitner, U.S. Consul General in the Kurdistan Region.

Discussions focused on the overall situation in Iraq and the broader region, as well as on ways to further strengthen ties between the Kurdistan Region and the United States.

Ambassador Fagin reaffirmed the United States’ firm support for a strong, stable, and federal Kurdistan Region. Prime Minister Barzani expressed his gratitude for Washington’s continued commitment and partnership.

Both sides emphasized the urgent need for the federal government to promptly send the Kurdistan Region’s salaries and financial entitlements, and to resume oil exports via the Turkish port of Ceyhan without further delay.

They also strongly condemned the ongoing drone attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region’s oil fields and energy infrastructure, calling for an immediate end to these acts of sabotage.

Additionally, the two sides stressed the importance of forming a new cabinet in Iraq before the upcoming parliamentary elections.
