Prime Minister Masrour Barzani Receives the French Ambassador

Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) — Today, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Patrick Durel, the Ambassador of France to Iraq, in Erbil.

Yann Braem, the French Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, also attended the meeting.

The discussion focused on the situation in Iraq and the region, as well as resolving outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government.

Prime Minister Barzani reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Region seeks a stable and constructive relationship with the federal government based on mutual respect for the constitutional rights and federal status of the Kurdistan Region. He emphasized the importance of allocating the Kurdistan Region’s rightful share of the federal budget and expressed hope that the recent agreement to resume oil exports from the Kurdistan Region will contribute to resolving broader disputes between the two sides.

Ambassador Durel welcomed the KRG’s reform agenda and praised Prime Minister Barzani’s leadership in implementing environmental protection initiatives.

They also exchanged views on the ongoing efforts to form a new KRG cabinet and the parliamentary election process in Iraq.
