Statement by the KRG on the occasion of Akitu

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - The Kurdistan Regional Government issued the following statement on the occasion of Akitu:

“The Kurdistan Regional Government congratulates all Christian brothers and sisters in the Kurdistan Region as they observe the birth of Akitu and celebrate the New Year for Assyrians, Syriacs, and Chaldeans. The occasion marks the defeat of the Kassite forces by Marduk and the revival of the land and crops wheat and barley as the sun emerged, signaling the arrival of justice.

The nations between the Tigris and Euphrates and the people of Kurdistan have always peacefully coexisted, which has ensured their survival and growth through even the hardest of times. The Kurdistan Regional Government prides itself in preserving the Kurdistan Region as a safe haven for our Christian brothers, who greatly contribute to our political discourse, our institutions, our society, and to our efforts toward peace and prosperity for all.”
