Council of Ministers funds Ministry of Higher Education bid for better dormitories and improving student life
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Council of Ministers on Wednesday had its weekly meeting led by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
PM Barzani addressed the globally-celebrated International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, on November 25. He said the KRG will strive to eliminate all violence, especially that which is against women.
The Preimer highlighted the importance of the KRG’s participation in the Manama dialogue. He added that it underlined the KRG’s crucial role in maintaining regional stability.
The council also discussed post election developments in Iraq, stressing the importance of a calm and smooth dialogue between political parties for the country’s sake.
In the second part of the meeting, they discussed student protests and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific research gave an update on the situation. Ministers agreed to fund the improvement of the dormitories and the conditions of students.
Council of Ministers tasked civil defence units to keep protests peaceful and condemned any form of violence or vandalism during the demonstrations.
In the third part of the meeting, a report was given to the council by the head of department of foreign relations regarding KRG efforts to solve the migrant crisis on the Belarus-Poland border and returning those who volunteered to the Kurdistan Region.
The council reiterated there are continuous efforts to help those migrants and facilitate their voluntary return and for the Interior Ministry to act against those who took advantage of the situation and are profiting at the risk of people’s lives and safety.
Finally, the head of the KRG’s Environment Board gave a report on the environmental situation of the Kurdistan Region, a crucial matter for the government. The council tasked responsible ministries to aid the board in its work.
